Tihar 2026: Laxmi Puja and Bhai Tika sait in Australia and abroad
Laxmi Puja falls on Sunday 8 November 2026 and Bhai Tika on Wednesday 11 November. For Nepalis abroad the question is always the time: a sait announced for Kathmandu does not carry over by changing the clock, because the lagna rises at a different moment in every city.
Below, each city has two times: the sait calculated for that city by the method of Nepal’s Panchang Nirnayak Samiti, and, where one has been published, the time given by the local Nepali organisation. Follow whichever your family and community follow — both sit inside the same auspicious window.

Kathmandu’s time is calculated by the Samiti’s method; the Samiti’s own 2083 announcement will be the final word in Nepal.
Bhai Tika, Wednesday 11 November
Nepal’s Panchang Nirnayak Samiti had not announced this year’s Bhai Tika sait when this page was written. Last year it chose the Kanya navamsa within Dhanu lagna (11:39 am in Kathmandu); this year it may choose differently, so we will add each city’s time once the announcement is out. Tika can be given throughout the day.

How these times are calculated
Laxmi Puja is performed in a fixed (sthir) lagna so that Lakshmi stays. Nepal’s Panchang Nirnayak Samiti takes Vrishabha lagna after sunset and, within it, the Kumbha navamsa — also a fixed sign — and gives its middle as the sait. We apply exactly that rule to each city’s own sky. Checked against the Samiti’s 2082 announcements, this method gives the same minute in Kathmandu: 7:08 pm for Laxmi Puja and 11:39 am for Bhai Tika.
The tithi is taken by the Surya Siddhanta, as in Nepal’s patros; the lagna uses the Lahiri ayanamsa. Your own city is not listed? The Antaryami Panchang gives the lagna table for any place.
Questions people ask
What is the Laxmi Puja time in Sydney in 2026?
Sunday 8 November. By Nepal’s method the sait is 8:28 pm (the auspicious window is 8:20–8:36 pm). Nepal Hindu Samaj Australia has published 8:18 pm.
Why not just convert Nepal’s time to Australian time?
Because the sait depends on the lagna rising where you are. Vrishabha lagna rises at a different moment in each city, so 5:58 pm in Kathmandu is not 11:13 pm in Sydney for puja — the Sydney sait is 8:28 pm.
Why are your times a few minutes different from the samaj’s?
Both use the same lagna and navamsa. Nepal’s Panchang Nirnayak Samiti gives the middle of the Kumbha navamsa; the samaj table gives close to its start. Any time inside the window is within the same muhurta.
When is Bhai Tika 2026?
Wednesday 11 November (Kartik 25). Nepal’s Panchang Nirnayak Samiti had not announced this year’s sait at the time of writing; this page will show it, calculated for each city, once it does.
